The annual challenge: which sake to choose for New Year's Day. This year, I decided on this one. Jyushidai, which I had said I would drink with my friends, but it kept flowing and was left unattended. It was given to me and I was able to get it without much effort😅. I don't feel it's worth much and I'm drinking it with gusto. You should clean your mouth before drinking it. The sweetness stands out in the first whiff, but what is this aroma 🤔I'd like to compare it to fruit. A little gas, acidity that does not interfere with the sweetness. There is no alcohol taste that makes you feel a twinge, but it is satisfying as a sake. I see what you mean, it's the taste everyone is looking for. Osechi was purchased at Pure Ale, an Italian restaurant in Fuji.

Today was a very hard day for me because my colleague suddenly missed work this morning and I had to take over his work for him. I was also angry at my boss's reckless behavior, my leftover lunch was mistakenly eaten by a coworker, and when I looked for another coworker after the meeting to get some more work done, I was shocked to find out that he was absent.... Well, one day like this happens, so I opened a bottle of this one that I had been looking forward to. It is a summer sake, though it is high in alcohol (17%). I expected it to be heavy, but it wasn't at all 🤔. It is easy to drink, more like a medium sized sake. It has a slight sweetness and acidity, with a hint of alcohol. What a modest sake. This is delicious.

Today is the year-end party of the same department. Udon sukiyaki course at Yasudaya, a long-established soba noodle restaurant. I could drink as much Kaiun as I wanted 😋. Last Saturday and Sunday, I had to stay overnight and work 20 consecutive days due to an urgent business trip 😰. My body is screaming, but that makes the sake sink in.

Sawaya Matsumoto, my favorite, ultra was my first drink 🧐. I missed out on buying Ine Mangaka no Nigori, a summer gift from Kyoto, so I chose this one. I heard that the price has gone up this year. The first taste is very smooth, and the mouthfeel is completely different from that of the standard Moriboshi. Yet, the unique aroma and bitterness of Matsumoto are still there. The acidity is elegant. It is moderately dry. There is no description, but I guess this is a daiginjo level. But still, it is delicious! On the way back, we stopped by the Kyoto Expo.

I wanted to try a bottle of Genmai's Special Jun. I bought it at Nishinoiri Shouten when I visited Nagano in the summer 🚗. Compared to the Omachi and Miyamanishiki junmai ginjos I have had in the past, it seems much lighter and goes down easy. Exquisite acidity and sweetness. Delicious 😋. I'm finally starting to understand the flavor profile of Genmai: ⭕️ The photo is of the Sanada residence in Matsudai. The pine-patterned sliding doors are stylish. From these fusuma sliding doors, there are some documents underlain from the Edo period to the Meiji period (1868-1912). These fusuma have yielded documents underwritten from the Edo period to the Meiji period. Many of them are said to be kakebari account books used by merchants in Matsudai.

This is a souvenir from a colleague. Apparently, they went to Shimonoseki to experience sake blending. They said they made a blend of 4 kinds of sake: sweet, dry, umami, and fruity 🤔. This one is rich, umami, and slightly spicy. I see, my colleague who likes Hakkaisan would like this taste.

I have been working on my regimen since August and have been posting less. It has had the effect of one hole in my belt, but I am having trouble consuming the sake in my fridge😥. Well, I drove to Sasaichi Sake Brewery on a recent holiday weekend. The sake museum for sale is very beautiful. The specialty Sasago mochi (rice cakes) are located diagonally across from the brewery, and they are delicious 😋. Yatagan nigori seems to be a summer sake. It is creamy, slightly dry, and has a good flavor. It is creamy, slightly dry, and has a refreshing umami flavor. Actually, our purpose was not to visit the brewery, but to go to Keitokuin (Tano-ji) and Seiun-ji, about 20 minutes north from here. This is the place where Katsuyori Takeda fell. Katsuyori, who could not enter Iwadono, set his sights on Tenmokuzan Seiunji, but could not reach it and committed suicide at Keitokuin Temple. Legendary signs were erected at every street corner, and there were many places to see 🤓.

The second cup of sake while listening to my coworker's complaints. Since it is autumn, I had a hiya-otoshi. The image of hiyaoroshi is firm, but this is Oze. It is a jun-dai, raw stuffed sake that is easy to drink. At the same time, it is balanced so that it does not lack the richness of hiyaoroshi. It is still delicious. Drinking with coworkers today as it is before a three-day weekend. My coworker is under a lot of stress due to a pretty intense workload, so I went to hear her complain 🙃. We went to a slightly expensive fish and bamboo sushi restaurant in front of Kusanagi station and then went to BAR Slightly Drunk. Altair in Sairai. I had previously had a red Tokujun and a white nigori, both of which were too light for my taste. This one has a little more depth of umami and sweetness, and is different in terms of drinkability 🤔 This one is good.

On my way back from a pilgrimage to Mt. Daisen in July, I stopped by Kumazawa Sake Brewery in Chigasaki. The Chigasaki City Museum is located nearby. This sake brewery, with its bakery, restaurant, and other stores, is a busy place. Now, here is Tensei's summer sake. The silver cap decorated with a rakugo rock attracts me. It has white malted rice with a sake degree of -14 and an acidity of 3.3. I could roughly imagine what it would taste like from these numbers, but I wondered what it would be like 🤔 Aizan? So I bought it. Today, I opened the bottle, thinking I had to drink it before it got too cold. When I put it in my mouth, a nice sourness spreads. I thought it might be too acidic, but the aftertaste is strangely mellow 🥹I imagined it would be a bit sweeter, but it is mellow rather than sweet. You will notice the mellowness as you continue drinking. Interesting sake 😁.

It's been a while since I've posted. I still don't have the Rainfall Batsurae and Nichinichi that opened in the summer available 😓. Last year I was asked to serve as a Ujiko at a nearby shrine. Something about the holidays can be disruptive. They serve sake to worshippers on New Year's Eve, and I was given some of the leftovers. It is a good luck charm. It is a Fuji-Nishiki and a honjozo sake, so it has a classical taste. Since it is a full bottle, I thought I would use it as a cooking sake.

The second cup. This is Mimuro cedar wood vat Bodhi yeast. The impact of "Hiraman" was so strong that it seemed to be modest. I think this sake is better to be savored slowly and calmly. After drinking a lot, I was not impressed with this sake. When I see "Bodhi Hashiroshi," I always want to drink it. I would like to visit Shorakuji Temple where it originated and the Seishu Festival in January sometime.

There was an alumni meeting of the university. After enjoying myself to the fullest, I went to a BAR wee drunk with an acquaintance of mine. He is a young master who loves sake. I offered him my souvenirs, rainfall and sunset. He did not seem to know these brands, and was pleased when I shared my knowledge with him. Well, on this day, there were several sake on the table that looked easy to drink. There was a bottle of Nama-shu called "Hiran," so I went with this one. The name "Adams," as I read the label later, seems to be a reference to William Adams. So Hirado it is. It has a yogurt aroma like calpis and a sour taste. This flavor is overwhelmingly assertive, but quite tasty 🤔I can buy this for myself.

Second cup. I went to Kyoto the other day and stopped by the brewery to purchase this. Since it was a special occasion with my childhood friend, I opened this one boldly 🍾. It stands up dry but with soft acidity. I served it with Akao no Suguki, a Kyoto souvenir, and Odawara no Neri-mono (fish paste) as a side dish. However, I always think that this sake called Nichinichi would go well with delicate dishes. The photo shows Amanohashidate.

Today I got a call out of the blue from a childhood friend and we decided to have a drink at home. It's been about 10 years since we've seen each other. I was going to abstain from drinking this week, but I had no choice 😋. I opened a bottle of this one to give her something unusual to drink. It is sweet with a hint of cotton candy and a unique sourness. The lightness of the sake when you finish it off is as one would expect from Kamerei. My childhood friend, who is not familiar with Japanese sake, liked it very much and drank many glasses. The photo shows Nobutsuna Temple, where we stopped by on the way back from Okazaki Sake Brewery. Nobutsuna Sanada and Masateru Sanada, who were killed in the Battle of Nagashino, are buried there. It is located just north of Miyajima Sake Shop.

The last day of our history trip. Today we went to the boathouse in Ine. The boathouses are of course nice, but the sea is clear and beautiful. The sea is clear and beautiful. It is a rare izakaya (Japanese style bar) where all the food is made in Tango. Reservations were made one after another. All the sake was also from Tango. Today, we completed the East Pagoda, West Pagoda, and Yokogawa of Enryakuji Temple on Hieizan and headed for Amanohashidate. Tomorrow we will go to Ine, so we looked for a place to stay around here. This ryokan is so nice 😓 You can see the Miyazu peninsula from the room and from the restaurant. And it was a weekday after the Bon Festival, so I was the only guest. I had French cuisine, which was too good for an old man on a history trip. It was incredibly delicious 😭I was unsure about the pairing with wine, but in the end I decided to go with sake. I thought it would be good as a food sake, so I had a glass of Ginshari, which was just like it. It has a mild acidity that is not too strong. It goes well with sake.

The second cup was Kirakucho. It literally tasted like it was supposed to, but it was sweet and refreshing. The photo shows the shiso-flavored shaved ice🍧 offered at check-in at the hotel lecture hall where we stayed, and the marker post of the Russian Crown Prince in distress near the hotel. The Otsu Incident 🫢. Today we visited Shiga-in Monzeki - Ritsuin - Seigenji - Hiyoshi Toshogu - Saikyoin - Morianji Temple in Sakamoto, and then extended our visit to Ishiyama-ji Temple because we had some extra time. Sakamoto is famous for the Shonaga revolt. Sakamoto was a strategic point of transportation, and by the medieval period, horse borrowing was still practiced in the area. Unlike Koyasan, the town overhangs the lower boundary because of the advantage there 🤔. In addition, stone walls of Anata-shu are everywhere, including Seian-ji Temple. And Shiga-in Temple is worth seeing because it is associated with Tenkai 🧐. I omitted Mitsui Temple and Hiyoshi Taisha because I visited them long time ago.

When I tried to go out for dinner, all the restaurants I wanted were closed 😔. It was a Sunday and the Bon Festival was coming up, so it was inevitable. I am here in Otsu. Stay overnight today and go to Eizan tomorrow. We stayed at Otsujuku on the old Tokaido Highway. There is a group of hotels called "Ko," which are old houses that have been renovated. I found it by chance and it's really nice🙆. It is beautiful and you can have a drink in the lounge. I had never heard of it before, but it seems to be produced by "Jiyujin". I thought this was just a magazine, but they are also involved in town development consulting. There was a rare brand of sake. It has a somewhat classic flavor. It has a thick acidity and a sense of heaviness.
