Today's hope. Nozomi is a special brand for me. Today is not a special day, but somehow. The rice is 100% Miyamanishiki polished to 60%. It is said to be the third largest sake produced in Japan after Yamadanishiki and Gohyakumangoku. Yes, it is delicious. Not too sweet, with a lingering bitter aftertaste, but that may advance the meal. So I ate and drank, and then ate and drank again.

Seven spears the other day. Shichibonjari is my favorite brand. I found one for sale in October 2024 at Kakuyasu. The sake rice is 100% Shiga Prefecture-grown Tamakabane. I had never heard of Tamakabane, but I was told that it is often used to make sake with a unique richness, with the disadvantage that it is not suitable for highly refined ginjo sake. Yes, when you put it that way, it may be full-bodied. But it's pretty refreshing and doesn't seem to interfere with food.

Yesterday's crop. Hakutsuru-Nishiki is said to be a kind of sibling sake rice to Yamada-Nishiki, having the same parents Yamadaho and Watabune as Yamada-Nishiki. It is said to have been developed with the aim of surpassing Yamada-Nishiki as a sake rice. The taste is mild, mellow, and clear. Of course it tastes great, but since it is a Junmai Daiginjo from Sakusama, I may have expected a little too much😅. Also, not that it matters, but I'm kind of glad I got a good picture of it in my mind: ☺️

Rainfall today. Was there a bit of a buzz in the sakewa a while ago? Rainfall spring sun. The rice is low-protein Shunyo, and the milling ratio is 70%. When I tasted it carefully, I found that the aroma was fruit? The mouthfeel is quite fresh, with a strong fizziness, and the fruity sweetness is sharp and clean. Eh, isn't it quite delicious 🤭? I didn't feel the bamboo 🎋 nor the grass 🌱 😂. Amezure is having a dispute with AFURI, the ramen shop, over their trademark (in my opinion, the perception that the ramen shop is the more difficult one), and I think they are going through a lot, so in that sense, I want to support them✨.

Nabeshima today. Junmai Ginjo of Yamada Nishiki. I found a bottle of Lord Nabeshima that looked unsold at a nearby Kakuyasu, so I was in a hurry to bring it home, how impertinent. It is a junmai ginjo, but it is fruity and delicate like any other daiginjo. Highly balanced sweetness and deliciousness ✨.

Lo ten thousand today. Junmai Ginjo from the Loman series, which focuses on Aizu. Smooth on the palate. Delicious, with a gentle, slightly sweet taste. There was also a sharp dry bitterness afterward. Aizu and Aizuwakamatsu may be different, but come to think of it, Tsurugajo Castle in Aizuwakamatsu is a very beautiful castle.

Today is Sheng Masu. I found one cup at the supermarket. It is quite dry. I thought once again that it was a great accomplishment for a local brand that is easily familiar to the locals to win first place in the SAKE COMPETITION 2025 Junmai Daiginjo category Gold Prize🥇.

Turtle age today. I couldn't drink on August 6, but I wanted to drink Hiroshima sake today. Kamerei's Ao Yoi. The sake rice is Hachitan-Nishiki, just like Hiroshima. Alcohol content 16%. Wakamusume today. Tropical Boom Boom. Shintani Shuzo is brewed by a husband and wife team. This is a summer sake from the Bunbun series, a series in which they are taking on new challenges. First of all, the label is interesting. It is a sweet and tasty sake, easy to drink like a juice, and great for barbecues and other gatherings. It's hard to say it out loud, but it's the kind of sake I like to drink with girls. It is not a sake for an old man to drink alone. Anyone else out there...

Today, Genzei. I drank a brand I was interested in for the first time. According to the introduction by Isego Honten Using Fukunoka sake produced in Aizu, this sake has a fruity aroma and a rich flavor of rice with a light aftertaste. Brewed slowly at low temperature, it is a light, umami-guchi sake with a good balance of moderate umami and sweetness. That's exactly what it says. Exactly. It is delicious.

Kawazuru today. Kawatsuru's seasonal junmai ginjo is distributed only in Kagawa Prefecture. It is called "Hatsunatsuagari" and is a summer version of the limited edition sake that is released each season. Kawatsuru is a famous brewer of Sanuki Kuraudai, and they are quite aggressive in their product development. This one has a fresh flavor and a clean, crisp taste. They recommend grilled ayu and eggplant dengaku. I see...it is more suitable for a daytime party than a nighttime dinner, or perhaps a mealtime drink while watching a high school baseball game. You can finish with somen noodles or cold udon noodles. Nice 👍It's summer 🎐.

Morimasu the other day. Junmai Daiginjo. 1st place 🥇 Gold Prize in the Junmai Daiginjo category at the SAKE COMPETITION 2025. 1st place 👏 out of 341 entries that completely hid the brand name. Very tasty, but maybe I expected too much 😅. However, I didn't chill it a bit enough and drank it at halfway temperature, not to warm it up. The cup was also a half-assed glass cup, maybe I lacked respect for the champion 🙇. I have another bottle, so next time I would like to have it in good condition.
