Last night was a get-together. We brought our own sake, assuming it wouldn't be too much since it was an all-you-can-drink course at an izakaya chain restaurant. (I got the restaurant's approval!) I bought my first bottle of Vice Shogun. The aroma is fresh and fruity. The mouthfeel is salty-sweet with a hint of sourness. The ginjo aroma becomes a pleasant aftertaste, and is finished off with a mild sourness and bitterness. I thought it was based on a light dry base, but I could feel Aizan's character, and it was very tasty. The fact that everyone who drank it gave it high marks probably indicates that they were paying attention to me. I also like the cost performance of Aizan's Junmai Daiginjo, which is under 2,000 yen! Thank you very much for your hospitality!

Purchased at Yamasho in JR Ashiya station. I mentioned before that this liquor store is based in northern Kyoto and has a wide selection of sake from the Tango area, but they also have Kumi no Ura. It is rather sweet. Muscat and lychee-like flavor. It is fire-brewed but fresh. I'd like to try some of their fresh sake. I'm sure it would be delicious. According to the internet, it's unfiltered raw sake. It's true that it's on the lees for a fire-brewed sake. Sediment is noticeable.

This is one of the "unique local sakes" selected by a liquor store in Shirakawa, Fukushima. The name "Gomangoku" is similar to the name of sake rice, but it was named after the Miharu domain in Oshu, which was once known for its Gomangoku rice! The first sip has a subdued aroma with a good balance of acidity, sweetness, and umami, and the taste continues to the end and is easily cut off. I thought this kind of sake would be loved for a long time to come. The simple purple and gold label is also very nice. ❣️

Hakone Drink Comparison Set (2) On March 1, after a year-long event, I went on a trip to Hakone as a way of consolation! The local sake was served to compare with Japanese kaiseki. It was my first time to try Hakonezan! This is the spiciest sake in the group. It is a dry ginjo-shu as you might imagine, but it is moderately rich and very good as a mid-meal drink. There are only two sake rice study groups left. I've been posting them chippy-chippy, so my notes and my memory are no longer connected. But there is no doubt that they were delicious. The ninth bottle was Kami no Ho from Mie Prefecture. The first bottle was a Saku no Kami no Hoho, which got me hooked on sake rice, but it tasted completely different. The aroma is banana, I guess. It has a slightly sweet taste with a refreshing dryness from the microbubbles. It goes on and on... a never-ending type of sake. The next post should be the last in this study of sake rice.

Special Junmai Nigori Nama-zake🍶Kami-no-ho🌾 from Mie Prefecture. Seme smell, fresh✨, a little schwag. Sour and spicy. Mustardy 🙄 according to my wife. After returning home, I wondered what to drink and chose "Karahashi" by Homare Shuzo, which I had never had a chance to drink before! It is a junmai ginjo made from Omachi. The first sip gives the impression of sweetness with no sourness. As you continue drinking, the spiciness comes out and the trinity of sweetness, umami, and spiciness comes together, which is just the right balance and delicious. There are other sake rice varieties in the Karahashi series besides Omachi, so you have to try them 😆.
