Hakone Drink Comparison Set (2) On March 1, after a year-long event, I went on a trip to Hakone as a way of consolation! The local sake was served to compare with Japanese kaiseki. It was my first time to try Hakonezan! This is the spiciest sake in the group. It is a dry ginjo-shu as you might imagine, but it is moderately rich and very good as a mid-meal drink. Of course, it goes well with ingredients as they are, but it also goes well with dishes that have been added, such as those using dashi (Japanese soup stock)!

Work in Yamaguchi was over and I was on my way home. It takes about 4 hours by Shinkansen to Shin-Yokohama, which is quite long! Today, let's go back home after drinking as much as we do at Izakaya Shinkansen. Today was so busy that I didn't eat lunch 🥴. However, almost the last bullet train, and around Shin-Yamaguchi station, there are not so many places to prepare 🤔. At a souvenir shop in the station, I got a hamo no tsukurin (pike conger eel) and gairo for dessert (I heard it's a bit different from gairo in Nagoya)! (I heard it's a little different from gairo in Nagoya.) They didn't have any bento-like bento, so I went to the combined 7-Eleven and Souvenir Kaido store inside the ticket gate. Seriously 😱. The bento was sold out........ I hadn't even eaten lunch 😭 So I switched to something that looked like a prepared dish from 7-Eleven. Sake is santouka! A little yellow. When I went to Yamaguchi on business before, I brought back a bottle of sake I'd never had before, just for the sake of it. Yamatohka: Sake made with rice from the Saito Shizuku Sake made with Yamaguchi's sake rice, Saito no Shizuku Taneda Yamatohka was born in Hofu and once lived in Ogori (around Shin-Yamaguchi station now?). Rice used is Dewa Sanzan As indicated by the alcohol content of 19 degrees, it is a gut-punching wine. ‼️ And it has the same throat and mouthfeel as you would expect from Muroka Nama-no-Hara Sake. This sake was tasted along with the Junmai Ginjo I posted earlier. We were there when the store opened on the first day of tasting and sales, so all the sakes were unsealed, so we were able to sample them in fresh condition. I recommend going on Wednesday when the store opens 😆. It is Rokumaru with 60% rice polishing ratio. It is the same as Shinomine. It has more richness and umami than Junmai Ginjo. It is suitable for warming up.
