I went to the supermarket because I wanted a drink for the evening to drink while watching the opening game of the Premier League. I bought a bottle of Kihei's Omachi, a sake made by the Shizuoka brewery, expecting to like it as much as I liked the gorgeous Omachi. It was not what I had imagined, it was more like a classic Shizuoka sake. It is very light and dry.

This year, the rice used for the sake has been replaced by 2038 Honorific Fuji, and the label has been redesigned. When you drink it, there is a distinct sweetness at first, but the bitterness comes later and disappears. It has a sweet taste, but it is dry. Since it is dry with a clean aftertaste, it went well with Hamamatsu dumplings (🥟). I think I like this kind of sake lately. By the way, recently chilled dumplings are easy to cook and delicious. They are surprisingly inexpensive.

Yahiko Sake Brewery in Yahiko Village, Niigata Prefecture. The main brand was "Echino Hakusetsu," but it appears that "Yahiko" will be the main brand from now on. This Junmai Ginjo is also made from Yamadanishiki produced in Yahiko Village, and is a good sake, not fruity, but calm and soft. Yahiko Village is where my mother is from, and I spent a lot of time there as a child when I was sent to my mother's home, so it is like a second home to me. Yahiko Shrine, the first shrine in Echigo, is located there.

From the jacket, I thought it would be a light, dry, smooth and elegant type 🤔. Last weekend I was out of sake to go with oden, so I went to the local supermarket and bought a 300㎖ bottle for the sake. It has a sweet and refreshing taste. It's good at hiya, but it tastes even better when it's warmed up to human skin temperature to increase the sweetness. However, I thought it would be too clean to pair with oden. I chose this sake because I wanted to keep it light, but.... If I wanted to warm it up, I could have used a more robust Junmaishu or even Honjozo. I'm still learning💦.

On a trip to Shiga, I visited Hirai Shoten. The quaint appearance of the store and the display of products were a sight to behold. Today's bottle was the "Sake Brewer's 3003000 Year Old" (pictured left). The aroma is melon, apple, and pineapple, and the first sip is a punch. It has a mellow sweetness, but the acidity and bitterness make it crisp and refreshing. Delicious. Well, Shiga Prefecture was fun! I'm also looking forward to Kosetsu (I heard it's read as Fouche) on the right side of the photo 😄.
