Drinking with my wife at Tsushima Tsuru at Metropolitan Morioka New Wing on our wedding anniversary last week (laughs). We continued with Kikunotsuka Junmai-shu (Junmai-shu is a junmai-shu made by Kikunotsuka). Kikunotsuka Yo is a summer sake in the same series. This one is a matured autumn-aged sake. It is sweet but refreshing. No sticky feeling at all. The mild taste goes well with Rishiri kelp and ebi majake. I have to get up early again tomorrow, so that's all for today. Good night. (-_-)zzz

Next is Kiku no Tsukasa. Doubtful as evidenced by the year of manufacture I knew it was a twist 😭 This is a refreshing sake, but when the twinge is added, it becomes indescribable. But it's not completely bad. Thank you for the treat!

Junmai Daiginjo for the brewery's 170th anniversary Thankfully, I was given a sample of three different rice wines to compare... Yeah, they're the same! I tried to guess blindly, but I couldn't hit anything... What they have in common is Mellow, fruity, sweet and juicy Lightly caramelized flavor. The differences, to put it bluntly Hitanishiki: strawberry flavor and clarity Miyamanishiki: Sharp aroma Hachitan-Nishiki: Strong sweetness with bitterness and astringency in the aftertaste According to the internet, Hitachi Nishiki is made with No.18 yeast, while Miyamanishiki and Hachitan Nishiki are a blend of No.18 and No.14 yeast...heh! GW 4 days 3 nights with wife, 1,500km round trip🤣 We went on a Sanriku car trip 🙂. We stayed one night near Sendai and went to Sanriku. We had an ume (sea urchin) lunch box at Kuji station, and spent the second night in Miyako. Miyako's sake brewery, Hishiya Sake Brewery, Senryo Otokoyama. Seafood Cuisine at Murekou, a long-established bar that has been in business for over 45 years. Today we had fresh and delicious seafood dinner at Today, the restaurant was run by a pleasant elderly couple, who were basically just a customer with a reservation, but they were happy to help us at the counter.

A gift from Sawanoizumi The Jun Dai I drank before was a Miyagi sake, beautifully light and dry, and I felt (selfishly) the earnestness of the toji (master brewer). I had an image of a modest, but firm, light, dry Kura. And then there is this special pure Sawanoizumi. It does not have much of a topping aroma, but the mouthfeel is surprisingly sweet and umami! It is sweet to the level of the Hitakami, and the robust umami is also very tasty! It has a light acidity and bitterness, followed by a refreshing sharpness. It's good! This is good!
