After drinking Shikishima about a month ago, I became interested in Fukumochi Sake Brewery (Tenga Nishiki) who helped me with Shikishima Sake Brewery! I looked up where they sold it and was surprised to find a special distributor near me 😲. I ended up buying three different kinds! It's like a muscat with a standing aroma! The first sip gives the impression of being rich, but the mouthfeel is clear. I didn't taste much sweetness. The rich taste is followed by the umami of the rice, which is also heavy and robust. There is a slight alcohol aftertaste. The bitterness is also moderate~! If I have a chance, I'd like to try the raw sake.

Enjoy cheap sushi at Totoro, a popular standing sushi bar under the elevated railway tracks of Himeji Station. Although it is a stand-up style sushi bar, there is always a long line of customers because of the high quality of the food. Since I was there, I asked for a local sake, Yaegaki. It was not sweet, but it was not dry either. It was about medium spicy. I am not talking about curry. I had it cold, but I feel it is all-around good at room temperature or hot. It's great for a kotteri type of stuff.

I went to a liquor store near Niigata Station and asked the clerk, "Do you have any Yamama?" The clerk replied cheerfully, "We are out of Yamama, but we have Koshinoshiratori now. What is it? Koshino Jakucho...?" The clerk explained that the sake is made in the same tanks as Yamama, and that the middle sake is Yamama, while the aggressive and rough-run sake is Koshino-Shiratori. Ikebukuro with friends on Wednesday. It was not an all-you-can-drink party. Sake was my friend's choice as we sunk into the sake swamp. It was my first Hakuba Nishiki. Nice choice. It tasted like it would be ranked high in the Nigorin picks. It was fresh, fruity, sweet and refreshing. The upper half of the label is European and the lower half is Japanese, which gives it a Showa-era feel.
