I had the pleasure of experiencing "The Merry Parisian Girl" with Katsuben.
What I had expected was a slapstick affair, but what I found refreshing was that it was actually a "technical comedy" of the late silent era.
The film is a "screen riot," a whirlwind of revelry amplified by the frenzy of the Moulin Rouge and the multiple exposures.
The magic of the film was certainly there, mixed with Lubitsch's characteristic frivolity.
Conclusion: A comedy of 1920's frolics, but with a surprisingly modern pace and venom, this film was made in real time, even more so because it was produced by Warner Brothers & Company, the company that rebuilt it.
2025/11/18 - Lubitsch the Punisher's specialty, a comedy with a touch of glamour! ; Program ; "The Merry Paris Girl" (1926) ; Benshi: Akiko Sasaki Musicians: Masayo Nagata Launch.
Even if you taste the sake, you can't tell that this is the highest quality. In other words, that's the extent of my palate.
Sukiyaki with kamaboko and trout sushi.
Walnut tree after Tajima. Pizza, shabu-shabu and sake. Refreshing and a little refreshing.
Snowy Matsushima Umi-KAI-Year-old flower, now a pure sake.
A good sake that we were excited to try.
Soten Genshu
Winter-only Souten, full and rich flavor
Polishing ratio 55% / Alc.16% / rich and fruity
On the way back from Eiji Yoshikawa Memorial Museum. In Eiji Yoshikawa's study, where I recall today's walk while sipping sake, the coldness of the Seto tiles contrasted with the heat of a person submerged in creation, and the presence lingering on the desk seemed to still be alive. The ingenuity with which he made the beams of the main house, the nail coverings, and even the plum boards, is the essence of craftsmanship itself, rather than that of a writer.
Then came the Yaguchi exhibition. The brightness of the colors and patterns echoed in the sake, and I felt the breath of an era when Ome was once filled with the sound of looms. Each tsurushibe decoration held a memory of the industry and a prayer for revival. Finally, I stroked the white plaster of the storehouse and thought about the wish for prosperity inscribed on the 1847 building tag. Everything I saw today was the result of the years that the land and people have accumulated over the years.
Reproduction of yesterday's dinner.
Iburi guko (pickled ginger) with chopped green pepper and bonito flakes. Refreshing aftertaste. The crunchy green pepper is the best match for the strong flavored iburigakko and katsu-bushi.
The word "rainbow" refers to the rainbow seen in a clear sky after a rainfall. The word "Hakusame" is a cross between the word "Thank you" and the word "Shiranui," which has a similar meaning and is intended to express gratitude. Hakusame" is a junmai sake brewed in the village of Dewanosato, and has a refreshingly dry taste with a subdued aroma.
Serve with grilled miso nigiri. Calming taste.
Drinking to pick up the talk show. A lively exchange of opinions takes place over prepared foods and drinks brought by various participants.
The snack of the day was an old businessman's homemade side dish: Chikuzen-ni, a traditional Japanese dish (with octopus!). and sweet potatoes covered with soybean flour and cinnamon (and sugar as a secret ingredient). Taco chips, pickled cucumbers, and cakes (!?!) adds to the flavor. Wine joined in the middle of the party, and we had salami, ham, and sausages, making the party feel like a year-end party even though it was still autumn.
To summarize the content of the talk show: to see life and consciousness as "connected," and to transcend death and illness is not a matter of medical or logical thinking, but of changing "the way we feel" and "the mode of thinking. This kind of text alone may seem oculistic, but in reality, it is a deep, deep dive into a topic that is as deep as a central line philosopher would think.
The sake is refreshing, a good taste that leaves no trace.
Launch of the Inamon Festival committee. There is a lively discussion about next year and beyond, especially about staffing and successors in charge. We snack on the famous omelette, chicken and rice omelette, and chicken and rice omelette.
After the Imperial Palace run. We talk about games, politics, and baseball. We talked about having a board game party next time.
The sake was soaked up thanks to the chicken skin with ponzu sauce and the dashimaki tamago (rolled egg). Ochazuke (rice with green tea) is also delicious.
