I’ve been drinking sake in the USA casually for a few years and I’ve come to really enjoy it as one of my favorite drinks. Now I’m trying to experience, appreciate and learn more about sake.

Category: Ginjo Taste Profile: Light & Dry Rice variety: Dewasansan, Haenuki Yeast variety: Association No. 10 Lineage (Ogawa Yeast) Alcohol: 15.50% RPR: 50% SMV: 5 Acidity: 1.2 My Notes: Pleasant and strong floral aroma with stone fruit. Very light clear and crisp taste like an apple at the very beginning before expanding rapidly with a big punch of fruity and floral flavor. Lingering floral notes at the finish. Light and dry but almost like it is rich in the middle. This was a fun one to try.

Futsu-shu cup sake that is light and smooth in the beginning before transitioning to somewhat tart in the finish. Tasting notes of pineapple and mint make this one refreshing.

A classic Junmai. Very vibrant at the beginning before opening up to what seemed like stone fruit flavors in the middle. Very light alcohol finish. A great sake to finish the year. Happy New Year everyone!

Very light notes of melon but mostly spice. Finishes nicely and is smooth. Overall I really like it. My first sake I received from Tippsy Sake as a bonus bottle. A great way to finish Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone!

Lightly sweet at the beginning. But it has a rich finish that switches to something more umami. The finish also has a bit of spice that leaves the tongue tingling.

Tozai is one of the most commonly available sake brands in the USA. However, their futsu-shu (named Typhoon) is significantly harder to come by. I wanted to try it again and was really pleased that I did. It is a little bit fuller bodied and leans more towards umami than sweet. I thought it was really good for a futsu-shu. It was good both chilled and at room temperature. Hints of nuts and some banana. I recommend giving it a try and seeing what you think if you ever come across it.

Melon and floral tasting notes with a mostly dry but slightly sweet taste. It’s really nice and as good as I remember.

This is a sake that’s one of the more common brands found in liquor stores and restaurants in the USA. I drank it chilled and it was fairly light and dry which I liked but it didn’t have the best finish taste. Simple but a good enough drink to enjoy after a long day. A problem with some sake made for the USA is they don’t give the date it was bottled so I’m not sure how fresh it was.

We don’t always have a lot of sake options in USA liquor stores so sometimes I buy flavored sake to add variety to my options at home. This one was fairly sweet and had good Lychee flavor. Easy to drink. Not sophisticated but not bad.
