This sake is made at Ishigami Fudotama Shrine, where Orochi no Aramasa is enshrined as a deity, as a prayer for safety. This sake has a refreshing fruity odor and a bitter taste, with a light sweetness, but the taste is relatively simple.
Sakura Muro-machi Okayama Omachi Junmai Ginjo Genshu
September 2, 2022
Junmai Ginjo-Ginjo-Hanzake made with Omachi rice grown by the Seto Omachi Club Eco-Farmer. Although expected, unfortunately, the aroma is of ink and rubber. The mouthfeel is characterized by a dark sweetness in addition to the dark alcoholiness of the original sake. The aftertaste is tingling with alcohol.
A company executive gave me this sake to drink. He said it was the best sake in western Japan after spending 4-5 years tasting junmai sake from all over Japan. It is the best Omachi sake I have ever tasted.
Earthy and grainy on the nose. Slight fruity, bubblegum aromas and apple. Some lactic acid notes. Not very aromatic or complex.
Suggestions of aging? Some Hine. Very light and crisp mouthfeel, but with good earthiness and biscuity flavours. Very faint hints of apple over earthy umami.
Short, clean finish.
This has got to be good warm. Bit underwhelming chilled.
3.25/5
3.75/5 warmed.
A gift. It is a classic type of sake, but it has a robust flavor and, at times, a sweetness 😋.
The label says it is brewed in Omachi, so a little personal information.
There is a cold spring in Omachi, Okayama City, within 30 minutes of my walking course, and nearby is a monument to Jinzo Kishimoto, the father of Omachi rice, built in 1940. It is said to be a sacred place for omatists, but I have never seen anyone making a pilgrimage there. But if I see them, I plan to call out to them and make a sakéwa 🤗.
It was hard to ask them to let me take a picture because they looked so busy, so no picture.
The aroma is classic Japanese sake. When you drink it, it is quite refreshing and slightly sweet. The color is dark and I wonder if it has aged a bit.
I was allowed to take a picture of it as the restaurant was getting settled, so I switched it out.
I got a bottle of Honjozo, which is not sold in many other places.
It has the typical Muromachi rice aroma, but it's moderately mild and crisp, and the smell doesn't get in the way when heated.
It's quite to my liking!
