Kikusui Junmai Ginjo-shu - Prayer Sake for Health and Longevity
Rating: C+
The emphasis is on the rice flavor. Not fruity.
The dryness stands out when served cold. Slightly drier and more aromatic when heated.
A gift. It is said to be a fantastic sake rice. The taste is elegant and mellow, with a restrained aroma and only a hint of sweetness. The price is quite reasonable since the rice is 40% polished.
Almost transparent in color.
Sweet aroma and sweet taste.
After that, umami, saltiness, and sourness.
It is very refreshing, but it doesn't last that long.
I believe Kikusui is a very large brewery that also operates in supermarkets. As an example, Funakuchi is renowned as the strongest sake in convenience stores, and I believe its stable quality and low cost are its main selling points. Kikusui's dry sake seems to be single-fired and freshly stored, and I feel that they are particular about this aspect as well.
My impression is that it has a lot in common with Funakuchi in terms of taste. It tastes sweet and umami, but less fruity than Funakuchi. It has a strong umami taste of rice, so it is easy to pair with dishes that are served with rice.
I thought I might like this at a tasting and happened to see it at a local supermarket and bought it.
I think it has a strong sake taste on the first shot on an empty stomach...it's good when you want to relax after the original sake type of drink.
