Ryujinmaru became famous through the manga "Moyashimon," but because it is made in a small brewery, it is not easily mass-produced and is said to be a miraculous sake. As usual, I was able to encounter the sake that I knew from "Moyashimon" and had hoped to try someday.
The taste is mellow, clear, and common...
It seems that the brewery is having trouble with this "common taste". I found out that the brewery's toji at the time of the explosion of popularity of "Moyashimon" passed away at a young age, and his wife has now taken over the brewery. Therefore, it seems that the Ryujinmaru of those days has changed a little.
Despite this background, it is hard for drinkers to have much to do with it.
I am an ordinary person who is not a sake taster or anything, so I don't have the vocabulary to describe this Ryujinmaru well, and as a result, I am sorry that I can't say anything more than "a common taste.
I thought, "I'll try it again in a few more years.

As you would expect, this brand would give you a much richer texture and also complexity in smell and taste. It actually offer a fresh cheese smell, together with some nuttiness of roasted nuts and chestnuts. Clear umami which is staying for long enough. Some coffee / toffee feel as well.

I think you are probably referring to the fact that the 8th toji of Takagaki Shuzo who brewed Ryujinmaru passed away suddenly at a young age in 2010, and his wife suddenly took over as the 9th toji and Ryujinmaru is still being brewed today!

New Rebaya in Shinjuku is reserved for up to 4 people, the price has gone up, and the variety of sake has gone down a bit. The first thing that impressed me was this Ryujinmaru. I had heard it was hard to buy, so I had to try it. On that day, I just kept saying "I want one too" as other people ordered 💦.
