Shiga sake festival in Otsu 2025⑳
Yamaji Sake Brewery and Kitakuni Kaido booth.
We slipped in at the last minute to listen to the toji-san who was a bit curious about us.
◉Hokkoku Kaido Junmai Sake
The rice used for this sake is Tamakae. It has a clear and refreshing taste, but with the umami and acidity typical of junmai sake.
◉Hokkoku Kaido Junmai Ginjo
A very clear and refreshing sake with a slight umami taste and a slightly pungent finish.
Hokkoku Kaido Junmai Daiginjo Sho
A high quality sake. The mouthfeel is clear and fruity with a good acidity. This is delicious.
Overall, the impression was a bit refreshing.
Only one sake brewed last year was made by Touji Nakamura, who came from Takeuchi Shuzo. The sake he brought this time was the same one, and he said he couldn't drink it anymore.
And this is where time ran out. It took us about 1 hour and 45 minutes to go around the venue.
On the way back, we took the train to visit a liquor store in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture. The owner of the liquor store was just visiting the same event, so we spent about an hour talking with the chatty owner, and then we safely returned home.
Good morning, Nemuchi 😃!
Thanks for your report on the Shiga Sake Local Sake Festival!
I personally wanted to go to this event (with envy 🤤) so this was helpful!
It's still intoxicating to hear the real voices of those involved in the sake brewing industry 😊.
Hi Aladdin 😃The Shiga Sake event was a great success and we didn't have enough time 😅I bought some Ninjas I was interested in from Aladdin's review at Tatzu 😁 There are many great Shiga Sake 😋.
This time it is a Kuwa sake from the Yamaji Sake Brewery.
This sake is made by the Yamaji Sake Brewery in Kinomoto, Shiga Kohoku,
It is a liqueur made by the traditional mirin (sweet sake) method.
It is not sake, but it is a rice liquor, so is it OK?
This mulberry wine is like mirin without the sweetness, and it has a medicinal quality like Chinese herbal medicine, but I like it for that as well😊.
I happened to drop by Umeda Hankyu and was surprised to hear that they were having a tasting event and that they always carry mulberry wine!
This is the weekend when you can finally feel the cool autumn air,
Pairing 😎 with a local fireworks display
Yamaji-san recommended a minty Kuwasake Mojito,
We enjoyed the end of summer with a minty mulberry mojito recommended by Mr. Yamaji.
For a hint of fall, switch the lime for a sudachi. 🍋🟩✨
Kinomoto is the place to visit Jizo-san,
I'm always buying salad bread.
I was so happy to drink it after a long time that I had to upload it 😊.
Hi Hirupeko, good morning 😃I'm ashamed to say I didn't know about mulberry wine, but minty mojito mulberry wine sounds stylish and delicious ❣️ fireworks and mojito, I can almost hear Fuji Fabric ✨.
Good evening, Wakata-san. I don't know about mulberry wine - I've always wanted to try it in baked goods, because it has a habitual slaughter-like medicinal taste. But still, I'm struggling with the problem of when to listen to Fuji Fabric with the heat lingering on year after year 😫💦☀️
Hi Hirupeko, good evening. 🌜️ The container for mulberry wine used to look like a ceramic sake bottle, but it has been stylishly changed 😊Mulberry wine autumn mojito is also stylish 😋The nights have suddenly turned cold before the weatherman tells us 😅.
Good evening, Nemuchi-san. There were many different sizes of mulberry wine at this event, although the ceramic tokkuri type may still be available 😊It got cold before the weatherman told us, but it won't get hot anymore 🥵🎵 Can I pour it down?
I bought it two years ago when I visited the brewery in the fall. Somehow I lost the chance to drink it and had it in the back of my refrigerator.
This sake is made mainly from glutinous rice and is treated as a liqueur because it contains mulberry leaves and cinnamon.
My personal first impression was that it reminded me of Yomeishu, the sake that my father used to drink when I was a child and I was allowed to lick a drop of it.
The slight sweetness and medicinal aroma of mulberry and cinnabar is refreshing and easy to drink when mixed with lemon soda water
To Nagahama, Shiga, the first of three bottles I went and bought at the end of the year.
I went to the brewery in the cold.
It has a clean taste but leaves a delicious aftertaste.
The store owner said, "The cold weather is better so far this year," even though it was very cold for us.
We also bought madeleines with orange peel made with alcohol.
We ate them on the train on the way home. They were delicious.

It has a strong taste, but it's still refreshing to drink.
It has a color and a feeling of old wine, but it's easy to drink, so I don't think you'll like it or dislike it that much.
It's delicious!
Carefully pressed in the tank at Yamaji Shuzo

My parents stopped by a coffee event in Kinomoto
at a coffee event in Kinomoto
and bought some for me 😊.
Brewed with flower yeast, this sake has a gorgeous aroma
Clear, clean and dry.
Noble taste, delicious!
Because the land has good groundwater, the sake is delicious
Sake is good and coffee is good too!
I guess it will be 🍶☕️
Hi Takubon-san 🐦.
Nice sake! That's a nice souvenir 👍✨I'm also curious about the flower yeast 😊I had a groundwater coffee before and it was delicious ❣️ most importantly, the water served was very 😆.
It's been hot every day, so we had it crispy cold and served it with a glass of wai.
It was extremely tasty!
It has a full aroma and richness, and if I were to describe it as a wine, I would say it is medium-bodied.
It seems to go well with eel, so I'm going to drink a little bit of it today and save it until the day of the Ox.
A short trip to Shiga Prefecture with my wife (3)
The last of the three sake tasting was Hokkoku Kaido Junmai Sake from Yamaji Shuzo.
This brewery is said to be the fourth oldest brewery in Japan, but of course this was the first time we had tasted their sake.
First, the aroma. It has a strong sake aroma.
When you put it in your mouth, you will taste a soft sweetness, which also has a strong sake aroma.
After that, a soft bitterness can be felt.
The second half of the sake has a strong stimulation and is very drinkable.
