I never thought I would be able to eat bonito tataki at the end of December. The neighborhood fishmonger is not to be underestimated. So, I opened a bottle of my favorite sake. It is a honjozo, Tamanoi, from Minami-no-Kura. It has a sharp spiciness with an umami taste and a spiciness in the aftertaste. This is a dry male sake. We washed down the bonito with room temperature sake. It is a luxury.

I didn't know... that Minami is Tamanoi, and Tamanoi is Minami... Minami is not sold even in Kochi Prefecture, and when I asked at a liquor store, to my surprise, they said that locally it is Tamanoi... I asked the liquor store about it. I heard they call it "south" when you go out of the prefecture... It's true, it says "Minami" on the lid... I've been to Kochi many times before, but I didn't realize it was so close by... And it sure is delicious! I may have a bias that it's my favorite South, but it's a delicious taste with a strong flavor.

Forgive me for being a sake novice. Aroma: There is a ginjo aroma, but it is not particularly strong. Taste: A little sweetness, rice flavor, alcohol taste, and finally astringency? Bitter taste. Finally, a bitterness like astringency or miscellaneous taste slowly comes in. Impression: As a stand-alone sake, it does not feel like it can be drunk quickly. The bitterness builds up as the number of sakes increases. It may be good with dishes that have a strong umami or salty flavor.

Obtained in Nahari as a souvenir from Kochi! I will enjoy it with the utsubo (moray eel), another Kochi souvenir, while thinking back on the scenery of Muroto and local delicacies! When you open the bottle and pour it, the aroma is crisp and gorgeous, like green apples. The palate is smooth and dry with a light, refreshing taste. The rice flavor spreads out from within. The light, not too assertive taste of sweet and sour astringency is perfect for eating! It has a light sharpness that connects well with the light and fluffy flavor of moray eel and eel ✨. It is a bit drier than "Minami", but it shows off its capabilities as a food sake without regret! Eel from Shizuoka and moray eel from Kochi! I'm smacking my lips over the top 😋!

Kochi Food Trip - Full Kochi Trip (5) Local brands from the south that I was quite interested in. Tama-no-i Special Junmai. The first sip of this sake was delicious. The aroma gives it volume, it has a full, robust flavor, and although it is spicy, it feels gentle. It was my favorite. Ippo-san is the same age as the brewer of Minami Shuzo and they often go out for drinks 😁. When Bouken-san mentioned that Ikari supermarket has a lot of Kochi sake, Kazuho-san told me that Minami Shuzo does not distribute to supermarkets, but the former president of Ikari supermarket gave the okay because of the personality of the person in charge of the sake at the supermarket.

Kochi Food Trip - Full Kochi Trip (5) It doesn't sound like Tamanoi, but it is a brand for the local market in the south. South is also a crazy salad hall brand 😆. When I told him about the Minami brand at Ikari Supermarket, he said that they had a policy of not wholesaling to supermarkets, but they liked the buyer and made a deal with him. Well, Ikari supermarket has a lot of Kochi sake 🤔. I think it tastes dry, but it has a good umami flavor and is easy to drink. I thought it was great that Ippo-san was so knowledgeable about other sake breweries and their information. He explained most of the sake to us.
