The 3rd Yodobashi Umeda National Sake Festival (2)
WAKAZE booth
I was about to pass by the booth because I thought it was the canned sake sold at the convenience store where I drank before, but I was approached by someone, so I decided to drop by.
Then I saw a sake I'd never seen before, so I stopped by and tasted it!
It's been a long time since I've tasted a French-made WAKAZE!
THE BARREL Pinot Noir
It is stored in red wine barrels. Aroma of maturity and Western liquor. Slightly vanilla-like.
Slightly dry.
THE BARREL Cognac
Quite sweet, like a noble wine.
It used to be sold for about 3300 yen, but it is now much more expensive 💦.
There was a booth next to the rice and agave booths, but I didn't go to the Hanakaze booth because they didn't have tasting 😅.
I think Hanakaze is the only refrigeration required type of nama-zake at this event. (Other draft sake is Kikusui Funaguchi, etc.)
This sake used Japanese rice from Southern France and fermented together with lychee, rose and raseberry. The color is light pink, very alike a rose wine. It smells like rose and lychee and it is very sour. When it gets warmer, the alcoholic taste become stronger. A very rare sake which matches with fruits and desserts. An interesting try!
The sake has a golden color, and was done in the saturnes barrel for 4 months. It smells like mushroom and soy sauce, and tasts like apple juice and honey. A very nicely done rich sake - matches perfectly with ham and nuts.
Junmai sake with low rice polishing and low alcohol content. The color was a light golden yellow.
I had an arbitrary image that it would be a sake with a strong acidity like white wine, but it was a sweet Junmai sake with a strong sweetness and umami of rice. The acidity is just right to keep the aftertaste from becoming too heavy.
