The rain stopped, but as expected, I was not in the mood to enjoy the nighttime cherry blossoms outside tonight, so I only took pictures of the flowers.
This brewery holds fond memories for me of working part-time when I was a student.
At that time, there was no such junmai raw storage.
This sake is delicious and easy to drink with a rather clean taste and little malted rice smell.
Thank you for your comments, Jay & Nobby.
My old school was near Shikizakura, so I have been there a few times to work at the spot.
I enjoyed getting sakekasu as a souvenir.
That was decades ago.
Purchased this sake because I wanted to try a sake from Tochigi Prefecture other than Sengoku. This sake is made with Kumamoto Prefecture's pride and joy, Karo yeast (mostly No. 9 yeast). Dry, mellow, taste cuts off smoothly, matured at less than 5 degrees Celsius.
Tokyo Souvenir Sake No. 3
Purchased at a liquor store in Koenji
This is my first brand.
Cold sake
Nutty aroma.
The strength of the sake comes through from the mid-palate to the aftertaste.
Bitter chocolate astringency in the aftertaste.
Tochigi Prefecture Shikiizakura Hatsuyui Special Junmai Sake Unfiltered Nama-shu
Utsunomiya Shuzo
100% Gohyakumangoku rice produced in Tochigi Prefecture
Rice polishing ratio 60
Alcohol content 17
Nearly colorless pale yellow
The first impression of the aroma is gentle
banana, caramel, lime, dumplings, bitter chocolate
First impression of the taste is rather strong
Caramel-like sweetness, firm acidity, bitter with bitter chocolate taste.
The bitterness has a strong presence, but it wears off quickly, so it is not unpleasant.
I was fooled by the cute label and aroma.
It's quite a punch at the moment of drinking it.
I can feel the chocolate.
I wonder if it would taste good with chocolate, or maybe it would cancel each other out.
I wonder what goes well with chocolate,
I think it would go well with nuts.
Salty nuts, like the peas from persimmon peas.
Sweet graininess in the mouth.
A slight aroma of maturity.
Compared to 4 year old wines, it has a youthful and fresh feeling,
It has a round and full flavor. It tastes like Shikizakura.
I can't pinpoint what it is.
It's like a messy taste between the eyebrows.
Degree of liking 2/5
First served cold, then lukewarm.
Sake with a strong rice flavor and umami. But it also has a sharpness that does not leave a lingering aftertaste.
The fact that it is made from edible rice called Tochigi no Hoshi is understandable.
It can be served with any side dish that goes well with rice. Natto (fermented soybeans) is a perfect match.
