The aroma is subdued, but the taste is sweet and delicious, and it is easy to drink despite its 16% alcohol content.
The rice used for the sake is Koshitanrei, which is not available outside of Niigata Prefecture, and this was the first time I tried it.
The sweetness comes first, followed by a spiciness that is typical of alcohol, but the aftertaste is sluggish. After drinking, the nose smells like mangoes.
In Niigata City.
After a lunchtime sake tasting and a walk around the city, we went to an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) in the city.
The first glass was a Tatomo.
Polishing ratio 60
Alcohol content 16%.
100% Koshidanrei produced in Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture
This is Niigata Prefecture's preferred rice for sake brewing.
It is a crossbreed of Yamadanishiki and Gohyakumangoku.
While maintaining the lightness characteristic of Niigata sake, the acidity, umami, and sweetness are well balanced. The high alcohol content did not bother me and it was easy to drink 😙.
The entrée was an assortment of pickles and Nagaoka edamame beans 🫛.
A good sake that doesn't interfere with the meal 🍶.
Jay & Nobby, it's my pleasure 😄.
I can't usually do this so I'm taking advantage of the opportunity 😁.
Thanks to you, my sakewa sake map of Niigata Prefecture is getting thicker👍
September 2024 Sakai Off-line Meeting Second Meeting Report 1📝.
It's too late to start now, but I'll start with the continuation of last year's Sakai Off-line meeting.
We drank some draft for now to refresh our palates 🍺 and ordered some tayu which seemed to be refreshing 🍶.
I imagine there are a few varieties of tayu at the Motomachi store that bouken-san goes to 💡.
The taste was quite strong in the mouth, with a good spread of umami.
I think I drank it all at once, partly because I was very tongue-tied at this point 💨.
I was about to go to the third meeting with bouken after this one drink, but it was too late and we decided not to go 💦.
Well, I enjoyed SAKAI Night so much that I'm sure I'll be back for more in the future ❗️ (I've already had a great time this year, but I wonder when I'll be posting 💧)
100% Koshi-tanrei sake rice from Ojiya, Uonuma Prefecture
16%, fire-brewed
Good, nourishing and well-balanced dryness, with a softness that is typical of Niigata.
