On the way back from Eiji Yoshikawa Memorial Museum. In Eiji Yoshikawa's study, where I recall today's walk while sipping sake, the coldness of the Seto tiles contrasted with the heat of a person submerged in creation, and the presence lingering on the desk seemed to still be alive. The ingenuity with which he made the beams of the main house, the nail coverings, and even the plum boards, is the essence of craftsmanship itself, rather than that of a writer.
Then came the Yaguchi exhibition. The brightness of the colors and patterns echoed in the sake, and I felt the breath of an era when Ome was once filled with the sound of looms. Each tsurushibe decoration held a memory of the industry and a prayer for revival. Finally, I stroked the white plaster of the storehouse and thought about the wish for prosperity inscribed on the 1847 building tag. Everything I saw today was the result of the years that the land and people have accumulated over the years.
