Located at the foot of Mt. Koya and closely associated with Kobo Daishi, the brewery began making "Hannya-yu" about half a century ago. Since the Buddha forbade drinking alcohol, it is said that people refrained from drinking alcohol openly and called it "Hannya-yu wo osuke" ("to drink Hannya-yu").

It is crisp and dry, and goes well with tuna.
