Junmai Ginjo is made from Koshihikari rice grown in Namie Town, which suffered from the tsunami and nuclear power plant damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Not only the rice, but also the water and yeast are produced in Namie. It has a mild and sweet taste, but the spiciness spreads and refreshes later. The label is cute, too.

The sad reality (both sides of the road are blocked, and if you try to leave the national highway, you will be stopped by security guards) strikes you as you drive south from Sendai on Route 6, past Namie and into Futaba.

Despite this, Suzuki Shuzo started brewing sake in Namie, and I hope you enjoy it.
