We received a rare sake at the end of the year.
Shukugawa Mai-Zakura" by Osawa Honke Sake Brewery.
It is a junmai sake that has the unique smoothness of junmai, the richness of the sake, and the sweetness of the rice in a dry, refreshing taste.
It is a little high in alcohol content, so it is very refreshing.
This sake is a brand that I have no recollection of, even though I had been to the Osawa Honke Brewery, and I have never seen it in a department store.
Shukugawa" in the name of this brand is famous for its cherry blossoms in Nishinomiya. I also enjoy it every year.
I had assumed that the name came from the fact that it is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, but as I was sipping the sake, I realized that it was named after a cherry blossom viewing spot in Nishinomiya.
I found out that there is a variety of cherry blossom called "Shukugawa Mai-zakura".
It was discovered in Nishinomiya in 1999 and given this name.
I had no idea.
I hope to enjoy "Shukugawa Mai-Zakura" flowers and sake together during the cherry blossom season this year!
With this thought in mind, I sipped the sake!
