Chokki
Kurokoma no Katsuzou, muddy
Brewing alcohol, sugar 15%.
I went to Isawa, Yamanashi Prefecture.
The purpose of this visit was to stop by Sumo Shuzo Brewery.
It's a completely unknown brewery, and there's not much information about it on the internet.
We specified the address in our car navigation system and drove by, but there was no sign of the brewery. Had they already gone out of business? I asked the grandmother at the nearby supermarket.
'Mr. Arm Wrestling? Sunday is my day off.
Ah, the locals are called arm wrestlers... When this brewery closes its gates, there is no sign of the brewery from the outside.
There's a brewery in our supermarket," he said.
I bought a bottle of "Kurokoma's Katsugura Nigori" for the time being. We decided to visit the brewery again the next day. I'll upload the sake I got on my visit later.
For now, it was the "Kurokoma no Katsura".
For now, it's "Kurokoma no Katsuzou". It's a thick, muddy, almost doburoku-like flavor. Taking a sip, it was surprisingly refreshing. I expected it to be unpleasantly sweet since it was labeled as sugar, but it wasn't that sweet. There is no acidity, bitterness, or fruity taste. It was better than I expected.
The origin of the name Katsuzo of Kurokoma is said to have been based in Kurokoma, where he often fought with Shimizu Jirocho of Suruga for territory. You can learn about the history and sake. You can kill two birds with one stone.
