I had to work on the middle day of a three-day weekend in November and it was going to be late at night, so I said I would go out on my way home and went to a local restaurant to have a quick drink and go home.
When I entered the restaurant, I saw these words on the seasonal sake list, so I ordered a beer and then a glass of sake.
Ippongi Hatsushibori.
It is a bottle of new sake that is bottled immediately after it has been brewed and distributed only to restaurants in the prefecture, and is only available during this season.
It has a cool, high strength, dark rice aroma, a fresh, sweet flavor with a slightly carbonated mouthfeel, a pleasant fresh aftertaste with a sharp aroma that passes through the nose, and a slight bitterness from the high strength that lingers in the throat at the end.
The alcohol content is over 20 degrees, but the fresh taste makes it easy to drink and comes back later 😊.
It's a great accompaniment to the crab season in my hometown of Fukui.
