The aroma is faintly yogurt-like. It starts off sweet, and then wrinkles up to a tasty rice flavor and dryness. It certainly seems to go well with sakana.
I've been looking for whitebait for a while now, but I couldn't find it, so I gave up and decided to have koaji nanban.
