As of 2018, Urakasumi's main brewery has won the most gold medals at the National New Sake Competition. The brewery began making sake in 1724 as the Shiogama Shrine's sake brewery, under orders from the Date clan to "present sake to the Shiogama Shrine." The company won the Gold Prize in the Junmai Sake category at the All-American Sake Competition 2020.
