I had the pleasure of experiencing "The Merry Parisian Girl" with Katsuben. What I had expected was a slapstick affair, but what I found refreshing was that it was actually a "technical comedy" of the late silent era. The film is a "screen riot," a whirlwind of revelry amplified by the frenzy of the Moulin Rouge and the multiple exposures. The magic of the film was certainly there, mixed with Lubitsch's characteristic frivolity. Conclusion: A comedy of 1920's frolics, but with a surprisingly modern pace and venom, this film was made in real time, even more so because it was produced by Warner Brothers & Company, the company that rebuilt it.
