It has been a long time since I drank drunken whale. It is quite easy to find in the Kanto area, so I thought I could drink it anytime I wanted, but I never got around to it. It is famous as a food sake to be paired with tasty Kochi snacks.
It is easy to drink, has a nice aroma but not too strong, and I guess this is what makes a good food sake.
The story of how it got the name Drunken Whale from Yodo Yamauchi, a lord of the Tosa domain who called himself the "Marquis of Whale and Sea Drunkenness," is amazing. I remember reading Ryoma Goes to Kochi when I was a student and thinking about Kochi.
