This heated sake was recommended to me at Yokobue, where I enjoyed chatting with the staff the most during my visit to the five breweries I visited in Suwa. Honoka" is a series of sake sold in each of the four seasons, and in winter it is a junmai sake that can be enjoyed at room temperature or hot. The flavor and sharpness increase around the hot to cooler temperatures. If I lived closer, I would make it a winter staple!
On a side note, the ume (plum) wine we tasted at the tasting was superb. I heard that sake plum wine with a light and crisp aftertaste is also delicious as sorbet. Oh, I should have bought some.
