At the end of the Edo period (Bunka era), a camp was established in Kamako-mura as an enclave of the Echigo Takata clan.
Later, Aruga Brewery was established under orders from the feudal lords to brew sake.
For the next 300 years, the traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation and the rich soil in the village of the camp have created the sake of today's Aruga.
