My favorite brand of sake to drink at the beginning of the new year is Hiran... a fresh brew that is only available at this time of the year among the "Nikkomaru" brand of year-round sake 😍.
To be honest...it was not the regular sake that got me hooked on Hiran, but the first time I drank Heaven 😅(see my past post for details).
So...it's actually my first time with a classic lol 😆.
In! I knew it was brewed with Nikomaru, an edible rice 🌾, so I opened it with that background knowledge 😁.
When I opened the bottle, I could smell a different aroma from that of Yamadanishiki or Omachi...but it smelled delicious and I could also smell the complexity of the rice used for food. The aroma is very complex and you can feel the complexity of the rice. When you drink it, you will of course feel the piquancy that is typical of the Tobiran style, but the taste is unique. ❗️
...I guess this is the taste of "Nikkomaru".
It's a little hard to describe in words 😓.
But it's delicious! It's delicious! It's like the first soda I've ever had 🤭.
If I were to use an analogy...it would be like the same cola tastes different depending on the manufacturer....
By the way... at the end of last year, I drank Nikomaru Hi-iri at an izakaya and it was not tasty at all 😢It had been quite a while since I opened the bottle and it had deteriorated a lot....
I thought that drinking it at a restaurant is a good and bad thing...
