Sake of the Three Shrines of the East. Higashikuni Sanja" is the name given to the three shrines, Kashima Jingu Shrine and Kosu Shrine in Ibaraki Prefecture and Katori Jingu Shrine in Chiba Prefecture. In the Edo period (1603-1867), visiting these three shrines was second only to visiting the Ise-san shrine and was widely popular, and was called "Togoku Sanja-mairi" (pilgrimage to the three shrines in the eastern part of Japan). In honor of the three shrines, we will start with Kashima Jingu Shrine.
