Rice and Agave Rice and Hops 13% Akita Sasanishiki 720ml 3355yen Rice and Agave" was given to me by a company employee of Kinshokai. Agave? An Ethiopian athlete? Or is the name like a boy with a seal under his arm, but... It is actually a brewery started in Oga, Akita Prefecture, by a couple who love sake and tequila. Agave is a plant used to make tequila that grows in Mexico and other countries. It is an interesting new genre of sake. First sip. The flavor is weak. Ah! Lychee-like fruitiness appears. It tastes like a soft drink called Suntory's Ume Salty. And then there is the taste of hops. It's like the bitterness of beer mixed with sake. A new idea. I was curious, so I ordered some hops to check the taste of the hops themselves. I drank it with herbal tea, and it was interesting. I wondered if hops are really an ingredient of beer. The taste was memorable as a unique characteristic of a new brewery. I hope they will lower the price if they can make a steady profit. Rating 3.8 (out of 5.0) 20220303
