Mitsuo Yamakawa is a unit formed by four breweries in Yamagata Prefecture (Mitobe Shuzo, Kojima Sohonten, Otokoyama Shuzo, and Tadenokawa Shuzo). The name was taken from one letter of each brewery's representative brand ("Yamagata" Masamune, "Tateno" River, "Higashi" Hikaru, and "Otokoyama").
Yamakawa Mitsuo No. 26 "Yamakawa Mitsuo 2023 Natsu" is from Tateno River.
2023 Mitsuo's theme for this year is "Collaboration with Fermented Foods."
